Amon made the mistake of falling in love with a chosen one.  The two of them planned to escape together on the day of the sacrifice but Amon’s mother discovered  their love and prevented the escape. In fact, she infected her own son with Alien blood which ensured he’d never die. So now he’s wandered the earth for centuries waiting for his beloved Aziza to be reborn and remember him and their love.

Aziza is one of the chosen. On the eve of the sacrificial ceremony she breaks her vow of chastity with Amon and the two plan to steal away together. As luck would have it, their plans are thwarted and Amon fails to rescue her in time. Now she has been reborn. She’s known as Alana now and she’s looking for her brother who is about to become a sacrifice. Little does Alana realize, but by searching for her brother she has unwittingly put herself in harm’s way.

This story see-saws back and forth between present day with Amon and Alana and the past when Amon and Aziza first met, so while reading you’re exploring two very different timelines. I must say Ms Adkins did an awesome job of running the two timelines without confusing the reader. The way Amon used the journal to tell the story of what led to his predicament was very skillfully done and ensured that the reader ended up empathizing with Amon. The characters were believable and the main characters were likable. I especially felt drawn to Amon. I felt the ending could have been a little more drawn out but it was still a great read, if a little on the short side.
